You Can Help

  • Spay or neuter your animals and educate others about doing the same. With cats and dogs in such high abundance, dealers have no trouble filling their cages.

  • Educate family, friends and neighbors about pet theft and what they must do to keep their animals safe.

  • Distribute literature on pet theft in your community. Contact LCA for brochures.

  • Call people who have placed “free to good home” ads in the paper and warn them about Class “B” dealers and the pet theft problem.

  • Place an ad in the classified section warning readers about “bunchers” and educating them about what they can do to ensure their pet’s new home is a safe one.

  • If a stolen animal is positively identified in a dealer’s possession, report it to LCA and to USDA officials in your state. Ask that the dealer’s records be inspected.

  • Plan an event or activity in your area of February 14th, Pet Theft Awareness Day. View our suggested activities list for ideas.

  • For a complete list of all licensed dealers, breeders and research facilities, visit the “Facility Lists” section on: www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/publications.html.

  • Download a copy of LCA’s Pet Safety and Protection Act petition HERE. Collect signatures from residents of your state and mail the petitions back to LCA: 8033 Sunset Blvd. #835, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
